Following graduation from law school, David practiced in New York City for three years and Paris, France for two years with a large New York City based financial center oriented law firm. He returned to Utah to practice with a Salt Lake City based law firm where he spent fifteen years. He then served for fifteen years as the chief legal officer of a Salt Lake City based company that owned and operated radio and television stations in large markets in the United States. Afterwards he was the chief legal officer of a company that provides a broad range of insurance and retirement benefits to employees of the LDS Church and its affiliates.
His practice centered on capital transactions, such as project financings, purchases and sales of companies and assets, and leasing, as well as documenting strategic relationships, in industries including broadcast communications, steel making, electricity generation and transmission, software development and sales, healthcare, mining, commercial banking and commercial real estate development. Most of the projects on which he worked were located in the United States, but some have been located in Saudi Arabia, Australia, Argentina and Haiti and have involved entities located in those countries as well as entities located in England, France, Germany and Canada.
He took a break from the practice of law to do volunteer work for his church for eighteen months in France and Belgium. Afterwards, he tried his hand at retirement, but grew restless and in 2017 welcomed the opportunity to be of counsel with Strong and Hanni where he enjoys general business counseling and document preparation, review and negotiation.
