At the Utah State Bar Litigation Section’s 2016 Annual Meeting, members unanimously elected Strong & Hanni Shareholder Michael Stahler as the Chair-Elect for the Section. The Litigation Section, with approximately 2,500 members, is the largest Section of the Utah State Bar and is very instrumental in the Utah State Bar. Stahler will serve as Chair for the 2017-2018 year. During the past year, Stahler, as Treasurer, and other members of the Section’s Leadership Team, worked with the Utah State Bar to revise section financial practices making it easier for other sections to invest in quality programs for their respective members while providing easier and clearer accounting of funds.
The Litigation Section is known for its exceptional Continuing Legal Education programs, offered almost monthly. Stahler has served as the lead organizer for the Section’s Biennial Trial Skills Academy (2013 and 2015), a multi-day event that gives attorneys hands-on experience in trial advocacy under the tutelage of some of the finest trial attorneys in the Intermountain West. In 2015 Strong & Hanni Shareholder and preeminent trial attorney Stephen Trayner was a member of the Trial Skills Academy Faculty. The next Trial Skills Academy is tentatively scheduled for May 2017. The Litigation Section also sponsors “Healthy Lifestyles” events for attorneys including Golf and CLE, Yoga on Fridays, Zen in Zion, and Ski CLE events. In addition, the Litigation Section supports efforts to provide low cost and pro-bono legal services for those in need.
Stahler was admitted to practice first in Vermont in 2008, New York State in 2010, and Utah in 2012. He is a Shareholder practicing Construction Law, Torts Defense, and Land Use law. He is a 2008 Graduate of Vermont Law School and a 2003 Graduate of Middlebury College. He has been selected as a “Rising Star” in the Intermountain West by Super Lawyers magazine in 2015 and 2016 and his peers selected him as “Legal Elite” in Utah Business Magazine in 2016. He has served on the Litigation Section Executive Committee, alongside Strong & Hanni’s Sadé Turner, since 2012.
