Shayla joined the Firm in February 2025 as an Associate Attorney and is a member of the civil litigation team, where she focuses on insurance defense. She represents carriers, self-insured entities, and their insureds in complex, multi-party litigation, with particular attention to coverage and policy-limits analysis, digital-evidence preservation and spoliation issues, and the procedural questions — party substitution, capacity, and endorsement and limits disputes — that can reshape a case well before trial.

Before joining the Firm, Shayla practiced tribal and federal Indian law, spending more than five years providing general legal services to tribal housing authorities and tribal schools. She advocated for tribal clients in tribal court and in administrative forums, and drafted everything from construction contracts and personnel policies to tribal ordinances. That experience gives her working familiarity with sovereign immunity, tribal-court jurisdiction, and the questions that arise when a claim involves tribal land or a tribal entity. In 2021, she was certified by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy in depositions and litigation skills.

Shayla graduated from the University of Utah in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and earned her J.D. from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University in 2020. Outside the office, she enjoys exploring Utah and traveling with her husband and son.
